Amos 8:11-12 11 Hear this! The days are coming— this is the declaration of the Lord GOD— when I will send a famine through the land: not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. 12 People will stagger from sea to sea and roam from north to east, seeking the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.
I think we have reached the days Amos was describing. People seem to be desperate to find meaning and significance in life but search endlessly in the wrong places. We are digitally more connected but somehow more isolated and alone at the same time. We have more information but somehow less knowledge.
There is a famine in our land - but it is not a lack of food or water- it is worse, much worse. We are living in spiritually parched lands. We search for truth while refusing to stop and even consider what God has said. We take advice from television talk show hosts who can't even keep their own lives straight and celebrities who are in between stints at drug and addiction rehab centers. We elevate those who flaunt their godlessness to the status of a star.
For entertainment we watch what God forbids;
We listen to things which are contrary to Scripture;
We dress in a manner that demonstrates no regard for virtue;
We spend more on our pets than the poor;
We have no interest in working to keep our nation grounded on Christian principles and practices;
We are willing to include anything that excludes God;
And we wonder why things are going the wrong way.
Would you like to hear God? Would you like to know His will and direction in your life? It is not just a matter of wanting to hear God, there are actually things God expects from you before He will speak to you. There are prerequisites for hearing God. If you are going to faithfully follow the Lord Jesus Christ you must get these two things right!
See you Sunday!
In Christ, Ray
